In Maharashtra, ‘Gondhal’ is practiced as a religious ritual, but ‘Gondhal’ is not just a religious ritual but a distinctive institution with a long lasting impact on the social psyche in a rich folk art tradition. In the present research essay, instead of looking at the ‘Gondhal’ as a religious ritual, the interpretation of the '‘Gondhal’ as an effective folk art in the society is presented. As the present research essay is mainly based on secondary sources of information, the researcher has arranged a descriptive format through interpretation. Also, on the basis of this secondary data, it is concluded that in Indian society, especially in Maharashtra, ‘Gondhal’ is not limited to a religious ritual but indirectly through ‘Gondhal’ contributes to the process of socialization and social control. At the same time, the ‘Gondhal’ is an effective organization for educating the society from a religious platform.
