Abstract:

Summary The National Curriculum Framework (NCFSE) 2023 emphasizes the integration of Indian Knowledge Systems (IKS) in school education. Inspired by India’s ancient cultural and scientific heritage, IKS includes disciplines such as Ayurveda, Yoga, Vedic Mathematics, Astronomy, Philosophy, and Arts. The framework seeks to integrate traditional knowledge with modern pedagogy to inculcate cultural pride, ethical values, and an interdisciplinary approach in students. Integration of IKS offers many possibilities, such as revival of indigenous knowledge, promotion of innovation, and strengthening cultural identity among students. However, it also faces certain challenges, such as creating inclusive curriculum, training teachers for effective teaching of IKS, and scientifically validating traditional knowledge to align with contemporary educational standards. This paper analyzes the opportunities and challenges associated with integrating IKS into school education under NCFSE 2023. It also discusses possible strategies, such as in-depth research, teacher training, use of technology, and region-specific adaptations. Ultimately, this study shows that the inclusion of IKS can enhance the quality of education by integrating ancient knowledge with modern skills, thereby producing culturally rich and globally minded citizens.
