Abstract:

Strategic cooperation, mutual trust, and common interests spanning many spheres—including defence, energy, and geopolitical alignment—have defined the India-Russia relationship historically. But the continuous Russia-Ukraine conflict has presented further difficulties for this bilateral dynamic, trying India's diplomatic balancing act among changing world power configurations. Driven by the necessity to protect fundamental interests such energy security, defence supplies, and multilateral cooperation, India's neutral posture in the crisis has attracted different reactions from the world community and condemnation from the west backed Europe. India has underlined the need of respecting territorial sovereignty and communication as a mechanism of dispute settlement even while it has abstained from total condemnation of Russia. Reflecting India's balancing of national interests and state autonomy in a multipolar world order, this foreign policy posture emphasising implications on India's energy imports, trade, defence procurement, and multilateral activities involving Russia, the study looks at how Western sanctions affect Russia and the Ukraine war on India-Russia ties. It evaluates the impact of the conflict on political, economic, and strategic aspects, therefore concluding with possible paths for the alliance and areas of ongoing cooperation among newly developing problems in a post conflict world order.
