This research examines the factors affecting students’ decision-making regarding course selection after completing the Secondary School Certificate (SSC) examination. The study was conducted through a structured questionnaire answered by 268 students. The analysis focused on the educational streams chosen (Arts, Commerce, Science, ITI, vocational courses), the reasons behind those choices, levels of prior information, parental influence, and the role of career guidance. Key findings revealed that 41% of students lacked adequate information about career options, and 36% were influenced by parental preferences. Additionally, students cited career scope, personal interest, and peer advice as significant factors. The research highlights the pressing need for robust career counseling and informed guidance mechanisms in schools to support students in making rational and goal-oriented educational choices post-10th grade.
