Abstract:

Pandit Rewa Prasad Dwivedi was a distinguished scholar, poet, writer, playwright, and editor of Sanskrit literature, who gave a new direction to modern Sanskrit literature. He was born on 22 August 1935 in the village of Kaliakheda, Madhya Pradesh. After completing his early education, he came to Banaras and obtained the degrees of Shastri, Acharya, and Ph.D. from Banaras Hindu University. He served as a professor and later as the Head of the Sanskrit Department at the same university and dedicated his life to literary pursuits. He connected the Sanskrit language with contemporary contexts and authored over 30 original works, including epics such as *Uttarasītārāmacharitam, Svatantrasaṃbhogakumāram,* and *Vijayanam*, as well as numerous plays, lyric poems, stories, scholarly texts, and dictionaries. He conducted extensive research on Kalidasa’s works and produced significant works like *Kalidasa Word Index (Shabda Anukramanika)* and *Raghuvanshadarpana.* His writings also include the use of Brahmi, Sharada, and Nagari scripts. He represented India at international Sanskrit conferences held in countries such as Nepal and Holland. In recognition of his outstanding contributions, he was honoured with the President’s Award, Madhya Pradesh and Uttar Pradesh Sanskrit Academy Awards, Vyas Samman, Valmiki Samman, Bhoj Award, Vishva Bharati Honour, and several others. Pandit Dwivedi passed away in Kashi on 22 January 2021, leaving an irreplaceable void in Sanskrit literature. Prime Minister Narendra Modi also paid tribute to him, stating that he was a great luminary of Sanskrit. His literary and educational contributions will continue to inspire future generations, and his memory remains a symbol of dedication to Sanskrit
