The Indian hospitality industry is undergoing significant transformation due to technological advancement, changing consumer preferences, domestic tourism, sustainability concerns, digital platforms, artificial intelligence (AI), experiential tourism and the expansion of hospitality businesses into metro and smaller cities. The sector has moved beyond the post-pandemic recovery phase and is increasingly entering a growth-oriented environment. At the same time, hospitality businesses face challenges such as rising operating costs, shortage of skilled manpower, technological investment requirements, regulatory complexity, intense competition, environmental pressures and changing customer expectations. This paper examines the major emerging trends in the Indian hospitality industry and analyses the associated challenges and opportunities. The study is based on secondary data collected from research articles, industry reports, government publications and other relevant sources. The literature indicates that digital transformation, artificial intelligence, sustainable hospitality, domestic tourism, MICE tourism, destination weddings, wellness tourism, experiential travel, online distribution and expansion into smaller cities are reshaping the industry. The paper concludes that Indian hospitality businesses can strengthen their competitiveness by combining technological innovation with human-centred service, sustainable practices, employee development and locally relevant business strategies.
